Ingredients

This is probably the easiest recipe on the blog and the one I use most often in my kitchen. I use it as everyday spices on foods, which I usually season with salt and pepper. Starting with my eggs in the morning, when I season meats, vegetables, seafood, and even popcorn! These particular ingredient proportions yield the best flavor in food.

A jar with seasoning layered into the jar.
  • ¾ cup salt, table salt, kosher salt, or sea salt
  • ¼ cup granulated garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper

See the recipe card below for specific ingredient amounts and their nutrition facts.

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a glass jar with a screw-on lid to make an airtight container.
  2. Screw the lid on tightly and shake, shake, shake to blend all the seasonings.
  3. Store in a cool, dry place in your pantry or spice cabinet.

I started using this combination of salt, garlic granules, and red pepper when my children were young. My go-to dishes back then were made with lots of chicken and ground beef. I later discovered Paula Deen's house seasoning blend in one of her cookbooks. This gave me the idea to blend the three seasonings in a jar for quick and easy use.

I still get compliments when I use the all-purpose seasoning blend today. Try adding some to your burgers and chicken next time you grill. Simply delicious!

Note: Sea salt is from evaporated ocean water and salty lake water. Unlike table salt, which is refined and depleted of its minerals, sea salt contains beneficial ingredients that are not found in table salt.

Top Tip

Find a large shaker jar with holes in the lid to store this seasoning blend and keep it in your spice cabinet for easy access.
