Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
3/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup chopped onion
4 cloves garlic, pressed
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup ketchup
1.5 cups water
2 tablespoons taco seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons mustard
8 hamburger buns
Instructions
Brown ground beef along with the onions, peppers, and garlic in a large heavy pot, drain grease if necessary.
Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes on medium-low heat uncovered.
Spoon onto the bottom half of a hamburger bun, place cheese, onion slices, pickles, and other add-ons on top then cover with the other half of the bun. Serve.
Notes
It's still delicious when you substitute the ground beef with ground turkey for fewer calories.
Try it on a buttery toasted bun.
